Destin Inshore Fishing at its Best
Fall fishing is in full swing and we are catching a lot of big bull redfish! It has been an exciting end to the summer and beginning of the fall here in Destin, FL. We are dodging major hurricanes and catching a lot of good fish! Along with some trophy speckled trout, we are primarily catching plenty of big redfish all over the bay.
Rigging to Catch Big Bull Redfish
One of the ways we are getting into these fish is by taking bigger baits to the Destin East Pass as well as the Destin Bridge. We primarily are doing this during an outgoing tide and anchoring up so we can use the current to keep baits out by the bridge and wait for big bites. Another productive way we have been catching them is by driving around the bay and spotting large schools of redfish. These fish hav been feeding on top underneath flocks of birds. When doing this, we have been using soft plastics on 1/2 oz jigheads because the redfish are in such a feeding frenzy they will bite anything that falls in front of their face.
The last way we are catching right now is by using a combination of different live baits rigged with either a knocker rig (20lb leader and 3/4 oz weight) or with Send it popping cork. This has been a very productive method for us lately. Whenever we fishing in thick, shallow grass the popping corks have been the ticket. Around docks, the knocker rigs have been working great.
Fishing Forecast for Destin, FL
The weather forecast is looking good as long as we can continue dodging these tropical storms and hurricanes that keep rolling into the Gulf. It definitely seems like fishing is getting better every day and I see no reason it should not continue this way well into November. The targeted species will be redfish as well as speckled trout using both live bait and artificial lures. I am sure we will continue catching big bull redfish but there will also be plenty of “keeper” size fish on the flats for us. Stay updated on what we are catching by following our facebook page.
